HE DECLARED HIMSELF RIGHTFUL HEIR TO THE FRENCH THRONE IN 1338 WHICH PRECIPITATED THE HUNDRED YEARS' WAR WITH FRANCE

HIS FORCES WON THE BATTLE OF CRECY IN 1346 AND THE BATTLE OF POITIERS IN 1356, HE IS CREDITED WITH ACTING SWIFTLY AND STABILIZING THE GOVERNMENT IN THE WAKE OF THE BLACK DEATH, ESTABLISHED THE ORDER OF THE GARTER AND PAVED THE WAY FOR THE ANGLICIZATION OF THE KINGDOM WHICH LED TO THE REPLACEMENT OF FRENCH WITH ENGLISH AS THE MOST WIDELY SPOKEN LANGUAGE  IN ENGLAND
