OBV: ANFONSO XIII "BOY (AGE 12)" HEAD RIGHT; DATE BELOW FLANKED BY MINTMARK OF SIX-POINTED STARS WITH INCISED RESTRIKE DATE. 

REV: CROWNED ARMS ENCIRCLED BY THE COLLAR OF THE ORDER OF THE GOLDEN FLEECE FLANKED BY TWO COLUMN PILLARS WITH MOTTO BANNNERS BEARING THE LEGEND "PLUS ULTRA"; DENOMINATION BELOW.

ALFONSO XIII (1886-1941), WAS THE POSTHUMOUS SON OF ALFONSO XII, AND WAS PROCLAIMED KING AT HIS BIRTH. THE COINAGE BEARING HIS PORTRAIT WAS REFLECTIVE OF HIS YOUNG AGE THROUGHOUT HIS MINORITY.

HIS MOTHER, MARIA CHRISTINA OF AUSTRIA, WAS HIS REGENT UNTIL HE CAME OF AGE AT 16, AND GAINED CONTROL OF THE KINGDOM IN 1902.
